Jerry Ray Zapata, 74, of Las Vegas, passed away Nov. 25, 2010. He was born Oct. 16, 1936, in Dallas, and was a 42-year resident of Nevada. Jerry graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas and served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963. Jerry and Kathy Brooks were married for 18 years and together for 35 years. Jerry was a retired musician (drums) and later a blackjack dealer. Jerry was a Paradise Valley Little League coach for many years. An avid Dallas Cowboy football, Dallas Mavericks and Ranger fan and attended a Cowboy game just one year ago in the new stadium. He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Zapata; mother, Dorothy Zapata; sisters, Dolores Cade and Mitzi; and baby daughter, Candida Zapata. Jerry is survived by his wife, Kathy Brooks; son, Daron Zapata of Florida; grandson, Dakota Zapata of Florida; and nephew, Nicholas Cade of Dallas. Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., in the large chapel.
