John Boyd Curtis was called home on May 15, 2026 after a long battle with lymphoma. His strong faith carried him and his family through this difficult period. Ultimately, Johnny passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.
Johnny is survived by his mother, Martha Bernice Curtis, his sister Sandra Cooper, his brother Robert Curtis, his niece Racheal Ross, nephews Nathan Cooper and Elias Leers, his step-mother Alma Curtis, and Moby, his beloved pug. He is preceded in passing by his brother, Larry Curtis, his grandmother Cleo Blake ("Mama"), his brother-in-law Justin Cooper, and his father, Dale Curtis.
Starting with his birth in Japan, John's life took him on many adventures. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a young man. During his life, he lived all over the country, Oklahoma, Florida, Arizona, Oregon, and California. When he retired from his job at Intel, he returned to the place he considered home, Nevada, to be close to his family. Wherever his travels took him, he maintained his strong connections with his family and friends.
Johnny was always the biggest personality in the room. He made friends wherever he went. You would never catch him taking himself too seriously. His wit was razor sharp and no one was immune from being roasted (or from being called a "lame-o"). Many have said he is the funniest guy they know. All who knew him will remember him for his whip-smart sense of humor.
Johnny loved many things in this world, but especially golf and the Oklahoma Sooners. He also loved his pugs and gave many a loving home over his lifetime including Pugsly, Yoda, Oakie, OJ, Sweet Pea, and Sadie Mae. And, he loved great food. He was always on the hunt for the best restaurants and loved getting together with family to try new places.
Though he did not have children of his own, he took an active role in the lives of his niece and nephews. They will always look back with fond memories at all the school pickups, video games played, A&W root beers drank, manual transmission driving lessons, and driving range sessions. He imparted on them the importance of critical thinking and considering both sides of an argument. Most of all, he was just a fun uncle.
To say he will be missed is an understatement. But, Johnny was a man of faith who would probably tell us, with all the love in his heart, that, "This isn't goodbye, it's just see you later, lame-os."
