Joseph A. Borowski

Joseph A Borowski, 89, of Henderson, Nevada passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014. He was born September 18, 1924 in Moline, IL to Louis and Pelaia Borowski. He is survived by sisters Dorothy Hamman of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Alice Burich of Palo Alto, California and Louise Garner of San Diego, California, and a large extended family in all parts of the United States. He was preceded in death by sisters Mary Youngren and Stella Rogenski. Joe is a graduate of St Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. He was a long time member of the school's President's Club in recognition of his generous support of their capital needs. He is a devout Catholic, and member of St Francis of Assisi Parish in Henderson, where he contributed benevolently to its religious, educational and philanthropic activities.

Joe served his country as a Marine Corps First Lieutenant in the Korean conflict as an artillery spotter. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor for demonstrated bravery in combat and earned a Purple Heart as a result of injuries sustained in battle.

He was hospitalized for over a year recovering from his wounds and returned to civilian life to a productive career in Washington, D C. as an investigator in the Office of Personnel Management. He retired from civil service in 1983.

At the beginning of his civil career he traded his pursuit of a private pilot's license to become an acknowledged golf addict. He is a well-known and respected participant in the senior Anthem community for competing in their many events. He will also be missed by his predawn fitness group at the Anthem Community Center.

Although a private person, Joe will be remembered for his passion for God and country. His friends and family will always think of him as the honorable man that he was. A mass in Joe's honor will be said at St Francis of Assisi Church, 2300 Sunridge Heights, Henderson, at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 30th. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the Nathan Adelson Hospice at 4141 Swenson, Las Vegas, NV 89119.
