Joseph Edward "Banjo" Goh

Joseph Edward “Banjo” Goh, 41 years old, resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, was born on October 11, 1977 to parents Corazon Escobar and Eduardo Goh in Narra Palawan, Philippines. He is the fourth child of five kids. His siblings are Janet, John Edward, Jennifer, and Joselito Eduard. He lived half of his life in the Philippines and half here in the United States.

He attended Narra Adventist Elementary school in Narra and graduated with honors. He went to Palawan National Agricultural College Science High School, now known as WPU, in Aborlan, and later completed computer engineering at Adamson University in Manila in 1999.

He loved movies, cooking/baking, playing and working on the computer, and spending time at the beach, When it came to movies, it wasn’t just about watching; it was about the whole production itself and h was so animated with the movies he liked. His favorite genres were horror/suspense, adventures, and blockbusters. He loved to experiment with food. Even as a young kid growing up in a restaurant business he would like to mix menus to create something new. My sister even reminded me that he taught her how to bake a chiffon cake using a frying pan since we didn’t have an oven when we were growing up.

He used to catch birds (pugo) with our youngest brother in our backyard growing up. This was one of his favorite summer past-times. We also went to the field and picked our own fresh fruits and vegetables. But most of our summer vacations were spent on the beach. We would be there from sunrise to sundown. All of us were so sunburned that you could only see the whites of our eyes and teeth.

His high school classmates would describe him as a jolly, easy-going person but quite serious when it came to work and projects. He was very competitive. He played volleyball in high school as his favorite sport. He liked to make fun of things in a way to save face and lighten the mood, and usually said things happen for a reason. He was also a member of the Student Catholic Action Group. He was a proud science high school batch 14th of Palawan National Agricultural College.

I saw him as a very hard-working college student. Often classmates looked up to him for leadership. He would even stay up the whole night to complete something. When he finished college, he worked in Makati, Philippines at a computer technology company. He wanted to travel and follow his dreams, so he decided to go to New York. During those times, our family had suffered a tragedy. He stepped up and acted as one of the major financial supporters for my youngest brother and I to finish our education in Manila.

We often talked on the phone at that time. He would tell me stories of his adventures and tell me about his friends. Our family is very grateful to the friends he had in New York that served as his second family. He had several jobs until he worked at one of the ice cream stores where he eventually became a manager and was involved with production and cake decorations. He had great respect for the owner and had been very loyal to him. It was when his employer died that he started thinking of moving to Las Vegas to live with us.

He was driven and very hard-working. He was a great brother, son, uncle, and friend and had the biggest heart. He was willing to sacrifice and put his family first before himself. He continued to help our family in the Philippines including our youngest brother who had kidney failure and eventually had a kidney transplant, as well as my sister who is now a breast cancer survivor. He also supported a couple of our nephews and nieces to finish college education in the Philippines.

His childhood pet, which was is the family pet, is named “Palpak.” At present, we have a family pet named Harry who we’ve had for four years. He would usually bring treats every night and spoiled him. He is probably one of the reasons why our dog has gained so much weight and is one of the heaviest Shih Tzu you will ever see.

We eventually planned on putting up a family business together. That’s when Asia Creamery was born in November 2016. This family business had been his passion. He worked seven days a week despite us telling him to take days off. He would go there even when he was not feeling well. He experimented on several flavors that were unique. He developed good relationships with all our employees. He was fair to everyone.

He was recently diagnosed with Insulinoma, a very rare disease. He had symptoms of hypoglycemia and had to eat every few hours. He was waiting to have a surgical resection. He passed away at home on July 25, 2019. He is now with God without long-term pain and suffering. He is survived by his mother, Corazon; his father, Eduardo; and his siblings, Janet, Jennifer, and Joselito.

I ask everybody to remember him as the funny, happy, passionate, and hard-working person he was to honor his memory.
