Joe Zerga will be greatly missed by Nevada’s professional and business community. A CPA with his own thriving practice in Las Vegas since the 1970s, Joe was known to many and respected by all. He earned an enviable reputation for straight-talking, honesty, integrity and dependability. His problem-solving skills were highly sought-after and his sage advice was trusted by clients ranging from large gaming corporations and casinos, down to private individuals. Whatever the situation, Joe could be relied upon to have his clients’ backs.
Like all good Americans, Joe could trace his roots back to mixed immigrant cultures. He was the only son of a proud Italian American: Joseph Edward Zerga. His beloved mother was an English American: La Verne Piner Zerga.
Joe leaves behind his devoted and loving wife: Christine Mody Zerga. His loss is mourned greatly by Christine’s family of proud Lebanese Americans.
Joe also leaves behind his sister, Sheryl King; nieces Shannon Borden and her husband Jamie; Marlowe Singleton; nephew Quinton Singleton, his wife Nicole and their children; stepmother Manuela, stepbrother Roman and his wife Renate; granddaughter Maria Schulz, her husband Daniel and their children.
Joe also leaves behind his faithful and trusted high school friend, Bruce MacKinnon. For seventy years, Joe and Bruce had so much in common, including an enduring love of football.
Joe’s loss is also felt acutely by his cousin in England, Russel Spinks and his family. Russel and Joe were the best of friends and more like brothers than cousins. Joe was a devoted anglophile; he and Christine loved to explore his historic English roots whenever possible.
Joe was a creative and educated man. He was also a practical man and a rugged guy who loved all sports, the great outdoors and hunting. He was a matchless communicator who loved people and he was a notable wit and tireless raconteur. Joe was a history buff, gourmet and lover of art and antiques. He was widely read and always acutely well-informed. Joe graduated top of his class, Summa Cum Laude, at Pace University, NY.
