Josephine Carbonell Hernandez was born on June 2, 1950, in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, Philippines, to the late Clodualdo Carbonell and Salome Dammay. She was a woman of deep Catholic faith, a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a cherished friend whose life was a beautiful testament to love, family, faith, and service.
On July 30, 1977, she married the love of her life, Lutgardo “Gary” Hernandez. Together, they shared 49 beautiful years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, faith, and family. They were blessed with four children: Lea Corito, married to Ram Taguba, and their children, Rhamil Aloysius, Rianne Alleasa, and Renz Alvaro; Lumine Plena “Lenie” Hernandez, married to Harold Umoso, and their children, Hannah Leyanne and Hyacinth Leannah; Lesley Anne Hernandez, married to Ramil Puerto, and their son, Aiden Reinier; and Luciano Carlo “Cholo” Hernandez, with his children, Jhilleanna Carla, Caroline Eleana, and Lutcho Eleazar - her family who brought immense joy to her heart.
Josephine’s faith was an essential part of who she was. She was a member of the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP) and Marriage Encounter Class 6 of Buklod, where she shared in the gift of fellowship, faith, and the strengthening of Christian family life.
Josephine also found joy in the simple and beautiful things that made life meaningful. She loved flowers, art, dancing, and spending time surrounded by the beauty of nature. Music held a special place in her heart, especially the timeless classics of Nat King Cole, The Carpenters, and Perry Como. These melodies brought her happiness and became part of the beautiful soundtrack of her life.
A woman of dedication and service, Josephine devoted more than 30 years to the Philippine Postal Service. She earned a degree of Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and began her career as an elementary school teacher. Through her work, she touched lives with commitment, responsibility, and a genuine desire to serve others.
Josephine’s life was not measured only by the years she lived, but by the love she gave, the people she touched, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. She taught her family, through her own life, that love is found in devotion, that faith carries us through difficult days, and that the simplest moments can become the most precious memories.
Her family will forever carry her in their hearts. Her husband, Gary, her children and grandchildren, relatives, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her will remember Josephine with deep love and gratitude.
Though her earthly journey has come to an end, the love she planted will never die. Her memory will live on in every family gathering, every song that reminds us of her, every flower that blooms, every joyful dance, and every prayer lifted in faith.
Rest peacefully, Josephine. May the Lord welcome you into His loving embrace and grant you eternal rest. May the angels lead you into paradise, and may perpetual light shine upon you. Your love will remain our strength, your memory our blessing, and your life an everlasting gift to all of us who love you.
