Laura Ipo Motu'apuaka

Laura was born February 12th, 1953 in Līhu’e, Kaua’i to Priscilla Kaipoleimanu (nee Schumacher) of Līhu’e, Kaua’i and Colonel Melvin Alencastre of Honolulu, Oʻahu. Laura is survived by six children, daughters Kaipolemanu (Leo) Episom, Mounu (John) Nakayama, Makalapua (Tevita) Lose, Makeleta (Fa’auo) Faga, Lucia-Sosefina (Ariel) Motu’apuaka, and son Alaipulotu (Kuongafo’ou) Motu’apuaka; 11 grandchildren Kaipoleimanu LienKapi, Hola Rosalia, Isaia Molofaha, Laura Marcelina, Alyana Amaro, Melvin Tosiwo, Priscilla Ulukilupetea, AJ Amaro, John Masao, Grace Nofoivaimaofanua, and Sosefina Lyn; sister Makalapua Alencastre, and brother Melvin Alencastre. Laura was preceded in death by her parents Priscilla and Melvin Alencastre, younger brother Timothy Alencastre, and husband Inoke Motu’apuaka.

Laura died of breast cancer - her initial diagnosis was in 1998 and then she was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer in 2006. Her family has always been extremely proud of how brave and strong Laura has been these last 24 years, never letting cancer slow her down. She was an avid hiker and traveler, and she loved watching her grandchildren play sports.
