

Leonhard “Leon” Paul Schelbert, 84, of Las Vegas, passed away March 27, 2014. He was born November 17, 1929 in Switzerland. He arrived in the United States in 1955, settling first in Miami, where he worked as a chef in many fine hotels. In 1965, he became the first Executive Chef at Caesars Palace. Throughout his career he worked as Food & Beverage Director at various hotels before ultimately retiring in 1996 from the MGM Grand as Vice President of Food & Beverage. Leon was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Marie, and sister Frieda. Leon is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nyla; daughters, Heidi Levine (Neil) and Teri Platt (Sean); nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brother Paul; and sisters Therese and Rosemarie. Leon was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and friend. He will be extremely missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, April 7th at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas.
