

Lilyan Sendrow Goldberg peacefully passed at home in the early morning hours of November 29, 2017. She was 103 years and 7.5 months old. She was born in the borough of Manhattan, in New York City, on April 14, 1914. Her parents, David and Rose Sendrow, emigrated from Poland, and established residence in Brooklyn, NY, where Lilyan lived for her first sixty years until 1974. She had two younger siblings, a brother (Harry) and sister (Ruth), both having predeceased her. Lilyan graduated from Girls High School in 1931 and Brooklyn College in 1938. Her professional career was spent as an Elementary School Teacher in the New York City Public School System, teaching primarily at Public Schools 5 and 46 in Brooklyn, NY. She married Solomon “Sam” Goldberg (passed on May 29, 1998) on February 2, 1941. Sam and Lil had two children, Marilyn Belle (passed on November 4, 2016) and Lewis Jay. She retired from teaching on January 10, 1974 and she and Sam relocated to North Hollywood, CA, where they lived until 1994, when they moved to Las Vegas, NV. During Sam and Lil’s retirement, they travelled extensively. Upon Sam’s passing in 1998, she continued to travel with her daughter, Marilyn, and enjoy her extensive family: four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew as well as many friends and extended family. She was a founding member of Las Vegas’ Congregation Ner Tamid. Lilyan is survived by her son, Lewis (Carolyn) Goldberg of Alexandria, VA; her four grandchildren, Melissa (Todd) Lemoine of Las Vegas, Kimberly (Marco) Cooper of Alexandria, VA, David (Heather) Glovinsky of Phoenix, AZ, and Shellee (fiancé Kenny) Goldberg of Alexandria, VA; and four nieces/nephew, Elissa Beer of Las Vegas, Lauren (Floyd) Rogers of Wading River, NY, Barbara Getzell of Las Vegas, and Jerry Sendrow of Tampa, FL; and six great grandchildren, Javon, Cristopher, Cassidy, Shayna, Adin and Colton. She will be buried at Palm Eastern Cemetery, Las Vegas, on December 3, 2017, joining her husband and daughter. Services will precede burial at the King David Memorial Chapel at 10am.
