Lucas (Luke) David Johnson 1979 - 2025
Lucas David Johnson, age 46, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Las Vegas, NV on October 22, 2025.
Luke was born in Salt Lake City at 3:16 am on August 2,1979. He spent his early years in the Salt Lake Valley before moving with his mother to the family farm in South Central Utah. Some of his earliest and fondest memories were being on the farm with his Mom, Grandma Bev and Grandpa Marvin.
When his mother remarried Luke and his brother Tyson moved with her to Las Vegas, NV where he spent the rest of his childhood and adolescent years. He graduated from Durango High School and attended Clark County Community College, Arizona State University and UNLV. He enjoyed rock climbing, wakeboarding, snowboarding, kayaking, hiking, exploring, traveling and writing, authoring two children's books. He went on to get his Nevada State Contractors License and started Natural Stone Coatings, Inc., a successful business specializing in concrete overlays and concrete staining. Although briefly living in Phoenix, AZ, San Diego, CA and Austin, TX Luke always considered Las Vegas home.
It was when he was living in Austin that he rescued his dog Raven. Raven became his best friend for life. He and Raven were inseparable and went everywhere and did everything together. He loved Raven endlessly and she meant everything to him.
Luke had a great passion for music and was an accomplished guitarist. He loved composing music and writing song lyrics. During his teenage years he and some of his closest friends started several "garage bands". He loved playing and jamming with his friends and they even played a few gigs around town. Sometime later he and his friends formed the band "The Ku". While achieving limited success the band did record an album that gained popularity and is still available on iTunes and Apple Music. Luke also regularly performed "solo" playing his original songs and music at a number of Las Vegas venues and had a very loyal local following.
He also had a wonderful love of nature, especially animals that was unparalleled. He had an uncanny way with animals that very few people have. He always fed, watered and nurtured all the lizards, ground squirrels, rabbits, birds and even the occasional duck that lived on his home's property. He truly loved nature and animals of all kinds.
Luke had an enormous heart. He was always willing to help anyone that needed it. He was continually there to lend a helping hand to family, friends, neighbors and even strangers. Never asking for anything in return. Monetary things were never important to Luke. He enjoyed the simple things in life. He always measured success in finding ways to help people and making other people's lives better.
Luke spent the last several years of his life primarily taking care of his Vegas Family (Mom and Stepdad). He wanted to make sure they were taken care of and looked after. He made it his mission to be there to help them any way he could.
Lucas David Johnson was an amazing and remarkable person. He was a loving son and friend who made the world a better and kinder place. Those of us that had the privilege of knowing and spending time with him are much better people because of him. His passing has left a huge void in our lives and he will be sorely missed everyday but remembered forever.
Luke is survived by his mother: Nancy (Gus) Prather, father Mark (Becky) Johnson; brothers: Tyson Miller, Justin Beus and Christopher Johnson; sisters: Shaun Johnson and Jaime Kinman along with a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
