Luz F. Ezpeleta

Luz F. Ezpeleta was married to the love of her life, Tirso G. Ezpeleta Jr. from lloilo City, Philippines. They had 9 children together, Jean, Armando, Tirso III (deceased), Elizabeth, Jerome, Dorothy, Caroline, Gerardo, Jose Marie. Luz is survived by 8 children, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, a brother and a sister.

Luz de Jesus Fernandez was born in the city of Tarlac, Philippines on September 20, 1927. She is the second of six children of Felix Fernandez and Rosario de Jesus. Her father was the city treasurer of Dagupan City, Philippines who died in his 40's due to pneumonia. Her mother was a full time housewife who catered to Luz and her siblings. Her mother passed away in her late 50's.

Luz studied grade school and high school in Holy Ghost College in Tarlac, Tarlac and completed her college as a registered Nurse at Baguio General Hospital in Baguio City, Philippines where she worked after graduating. After a few years, she was offered a job at the Azucarera in Dagupan City where she met Tirso through a friend, Tony, who got married to Luz's sister.

Luz was quite an athlete. She enjoyed bike riding, horse riding and badminton. She enjoyed watching tennis and Jai Alai with Tirso. But the best sport that she truly enjoyed and was good at, the game of Mahjong.

Luz came to the United States to work as a nurse in 1978 and lived with an aunt in Michigan. When Tirso followed to the U.S., the following year, they both relocated to Chicago and temporarily lived with Tirso's cousin until they found a place of their own; Luz worked hard to help support her children back home.

After 1980, the children began to follow and later on started to have their own lives. Luz and Tirso were both very supportive of their children.

Luz retired from nursing at the age of 70 in 1997 and went home to the Philippines with husband Tirso. They were married for 58 years. Her husband died in November 2012 and Luz joined him on June 20, 2017.

Luz was a loving wife, dedicated mother, great friend, caring sister and was loved by everyone.
