On August 18, 2012, the Lord came and took his beloved daughter, Marie Ann Jackson, home. Marie was born on July 2, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts, the only child of Walter and Annie Hyatt. Soon after she completed her education in Los Angeles, California she married and started a family. After the Lord guided her through the many trials and tribulations of life, she reconnected with a childhood friend who would become the love of her life, Leonard B. Jackson. Over the course of their 34-year marriage, which saw them move to Massachusetts, Maryland and California, Marie and Leonard ultimately made their retirement home in Las Vegas, Nevada. In both California and Nevada, Marie was an active member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She committed much of her time to women’s ministries and missionary work. She focused on personally delivering meals and other necessities to the elderly and convalescing. She also quietly reached out to those in need, befriending individuals throughout her community. By demonstrating and applying the word of God, she embodied the Great Commission of the church. She was truly His hands and feet. In her spare time, Marie enjoyed sewing for friends and family, reading, and watching her favorite TV show, Jeopardy. As a woman who found contentment in raising her children, she did it with the joy and spirit that glorified the living God. Her smile and personality would always light up the room! Her wry sense of humor was appreciated by all who knew her and “got it.” Marie goes home to join her father, Walter Hyatt, Jr.; bonus father, Elijah Dove; and beloved daughter, Leah Michelle Nelson. She leaves to celebrate her life, her husband, the Reverend Leonard B. Jackson; mother, Annie Dove; bonus mother, Gwendolyn Hyatt; children, Adrienne Piasta and her husband John Piasta; Gabrielle Johnson, Ralph Nelson, Jr. and his fiance’ Tresa Wilson, and Debra Nelson; grandchildren, Leah, Grace, Dionna, Isiah, Hunter, and Reese; great-grandchildren Cruz and Kennedy; her beloved Mikey; as well as a host of other family members and long-time friends who will all miss her greatly. Arrangements under the direction of Palm Eastern Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
