Marjan Rutar

Marjan Rutar of Las Vegas passed away unexpectedly April 21, 2023. Marjan was born on June 19, 1938, to Vlado and Marija Rutar in Radlje of Dravi, Slovenia. Marjan was one of seven children and the only sibling to move to the United States seeking to achieve an American dream. With his ambition and hard work, Marjan had a successful career as a dental lab technician. After completing his schooling in Slovenia, Marjan came to United States after an opportunity presented itself in New York. Shortly after moving to New York, Marjan briefly moved to Charleston, South Carolina before he decided to make Las Vegas his permanent home in 1972. Marjan owned and operated Emona Dental Lab supporting the dental community in Las Vegas for over 45 years. Marjan was well known in the community by his profession and proud to be a US citizen. To say that Marjan was a workaholic is an understatement. Although he tried to retire at age 69, the retirement didn’t last long. About six months after his “retirement,” Marjan went back to work and continued to work until last June, when he finally retired for good at the age of 84.

Marjan enjoyed his profession working long hours to support his family. He also enjoyed a few hobbies including stained window and glass creations, creating jewelry, collecting artwork and antiques, cooking and spending time with his family and friends during weekly Sunday dinners.

Marjan was predeceased by his father Vlado, his mother Marija, his brother Marko, and his sister Vlada. He is survived by Suzana Rutar (Jose Velazquez), Gwen Mullins (Mark), Michelle Shankland (Derek) and his son Dennis Rutar. He is also survived by his five (5) grandchildren, Jessica, Jeffrey, Kati, Michael, and Landon.

Marjan requested his remains be cremated so they can be returned to Slovenia to join his mother and father. A Mass and Celebration of his life will be announced later in the summer.
