April 30, 1947 - August 14, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of MaryJo "Jodie" Kromroy, who left us on August 14, 2024. Jodie was born on April 30, 1947, in Akron, Ohio, where she spent the first 30 years of her life. She attended Tallmadge High School, graduating in 1965, and went on to further her education at Kent State University. Jodie graduated from Kent State in 1974, achieving academic excellence that led to her induction into honorary societies at both the high school and collegiate levels. She began her career as a devoted educator, teaching for three years in Ohio before life took her on a new journey.
In 1967, Jodie married Don E. Scheidler, and together they welcomed their son, Seth Paul Scheidler, in 1968. Jodie and Don later divorced. In 1977, Jodie moved to Parker, Arizona, where she met the love of her life, Jon Kromroy. The two shared an immediate connection and were married on May 27, 1978, beginning a partnership that would last for 46 years. In 1980, they were blessed with the birth of their second son, Jon Cheston "Ches" Kromroy.
Shortly after their marriage, the Kromroy family settled in St. George, Utah, where they would spend the next 37 years. Jodie continued her teaching career, impacting the lives of countless students. She spent five years at Dixie Junior High as a special education teacher, working with severely handicapped children. Following this, she devoted 20 years to teaching first grade at Bloomington Elementary, where her greatest joy was helping young children learn to read. Toward the end of her career, Jodie was honored with a Teacher of the Year award, a testament to her dedication and love for teaching.
In 2007, after decades of service in education, Jodie and Jon both retired. In 2015, they relocated to Las Vegas to be closer to family, continuing to embrace life’s adventures together. Jodie was known for her warm and loving nature, and she is survived by her devoted husband Jon, her two sons Seth and Ches, her grandchildren Roni Rose Scheidler-Shannon, Randi Nicole Scheidler, and Seth Paul Scheidler II, Greysen Ryker Kromroy and Lexy Lane Kromroy and her great-grandchildren Kaylee Ann Scheidler and Nina Laakso.
Jodie also leaves behind her brothers, Reverend Daniel Lee Brewer and Samuel James Brewer. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Ann Brewer, and her parents, Mary M. Day Brewer and Wesley Edward Brewer. Jodie's extended family includes many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles, both living and deceased.
Jodie's life was rich with travel and adventure. Together, she and Jon visited 48 states. They also traveled to Nova Scotia and had the thrill of driving on the "wrong side of the road" during a memorable trip to New Zealand. She had the wonderful chance of going with family to Paris, France, and Italy, her heart was full of joy from this trip.
For several years, Jodie and Jon spent their summers exploring the Oregon Coast in their fifth wheel, where they served as park hosts for four years. They made lifelong friends, enjoyed playing pinochle, and visited countless beautiful places along the coast. In 2022, they began spending their summers in Flagstaff, Arizona, continuing their tradition of making new friends wherever they went.
Jodie also embraced motorcycles, learning to ride on the back of Jon's bike. Together, they were active members of the Gold Wingers Club, sharing 40 years of motorcycle adventures across the country. The couple also enjoyed a few cruises, adding to their collection of cherished memories.
Every five years, Jodie would return to her roots in Ohio, reconnecting with cousins, family, and friends, and attending her class reunions. Her love for travel never waned, and even as age began to slow her down, her spirit remained eager for new experiences.
Jodie lived a full and beautiful life, filled with love, family, and adventure. Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and joy will continue to live on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
