Matthew Robert "Bob" Jones, of Las Vegas, passed away May 7, 2014, at home. He was born May 21, 1936, in North Lawrence, Ohio, to William Jones and Lucille Leading. Matthew attended Massillon High School and Ashland University of Ohio. He then served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 11th Airborne Division during the Korean War. He lived in many cities during his lifetime trying to find out where to settle and finally chose Las Vegas. This is where he met his wife, Mary, the love of his life. Mary and Matthew were married 35 years and have always done everything together, "until death do they part." Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, William Jones and Lucille Leading; brother, Dick; and twin brother, Tom. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Mary; two sons, William (Leslie) and Patrick, both of Canton, Ohio; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Bill, Samantha and Matthew; one great-grandchild, Madison; and his sister, Mary. Matthew loved college football and basketball and of course his favorite team was Ohio State."Go Buckeyes! Horse racing was another one of his hobbies and he could tell you the life history of all the racers. His favorite place to go every day since they opened was Tuscany Casino. It was called his "fan club" and later "therapy class." Matthew knew and loved everybody and they all loved him. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123. A memorial celebration in Matthew's memory will follow at the Tuscany Casino. Everyone is invited and welcome to join in on his life celebration. In lieu of flowers, go play slots or bet hot horses in memory of Matthew, or simply give to the charity of your choice.
