Matthew was born to Henry James Story and Katherine Agnes McCoy, January 9, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He married Lorraine Audrey (Brown) Story in New York City, and they lived together in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they raised 8 children.
He leaves behind Michael Story, Lorraine Conley (Thomas), Thomas Story (Allison), Patrick Story (Tina), Matthew Story (Sherra), Mark Story (Migdalia), George Story, Beau Story (Tara), and a sister Peggy (Emma) Deichler. He also leaves to cherish his memory 27 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren. His grandchildren remember him as selfless, humorous, loving, accepting, a mentor, supportive, caring, priceless, an amazing role model, memorable, a story teller, and headstrong.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine A. Brown Story, Henry (Hank) Story (brother), Katherine (Kay) (sister), Florence (sister), and Madeline Arnold (sister).
Matthew served in the USMC from 1951, when he was 17 years old, until 1954. He met his wife Lorraine in February of 1954; it was love at first sight. They married in August of that year, and were married for 54 years before she passed away. He was an NCO in the US Army and served in the ASA for 20 years. He spent much of his time overseas in Okinawa, Korea, Germany, Ethiopia, and Shimiya, Alaska. Matthew loved History and hoped to one day use his experience acquired in the military to become a History teacher. He eventually moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he worked for the city of Las Vegas. He used to spend all year building "big" model aircraft carrier planes...then on the 4th of July he would load them up with firecrackers and blow them up. A quote from his only daughter “He was always there when I needed him... and helped me to raise my family... More than any other thing I remember, my dad taught me how to love unconditionally!” Matthews’s life will be celebrated on December 23 at the Conley household.
