“Are you sure you don't need to go to the bathroom?” Isn't a phrase you normally expect to be asked; but it was heard often enough by his kid's friends growing up but only after “Are you hungry?”, “Are you thirsty?” and “Do you need to go to the bathroom?”
As anecdotes go this is probably as solid an example of what Mike was about as any other off of the list; unfussy and genuine. He was always concerned that you were comfortable and felt at home when he was around. He shares this trait in common with all of his siblings. If he could make you laugh at the same time then he was truly happy.
Mike was a very generous man. If you were in earshot of the house it is possible you would have overheard on more than one occasion “you'd give away your a**hole and shit through your elbow”, usually after a couple of beers and especially at the lake. If he had anything he thought you needed, he would have made sure you were taken care of.
Mike's favorite place to spend time was at Keuka Lake. Summers at Keuka Lake on the porch, drinking beers with his friends and playing euchre and the man was in heaven. Since he and Sharon started their family the lake was the only consideration for vacation time. In the early 70s, after years of renting, Crooked Lake court became base of operations April through September for all free time until the family moved to Las Vegas in 1978. Some of Mike's most dear friendships date back to those lake years. After retirement Mike and Sharon were eager to return to Keuka Lake and 30 some years after they left, they landed once again in Crooked Lake court where they enjoyed so much time in their early married years to make new friends and reconnect with the established.
There is so much in a person's life that is joyful and Mike let it be known that his wife, children, grandchildren, friends and family were the source of his joy and laughter.
