Mila Revilla also known as "Mama Fe" was born on August 28, 1951, in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. Because she was a miracle child, my mother was named Mila by her parents, Francisco and Julita Castulo. She survived despite having the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck at birth. My mother had one brother, Benedicto also called Boy, and four sisters Mely, Erlinda, Vicky, and Emma. My mother arrived in Hawaii in 1977, married my father, Federico Revilla Sr., and had two children: Mary Fay, born August 28,1977 and Frederico (Ricky) Jr. born December 13, 1978. In the 1980s, my parents got divorced and my mother never married again. My mother was successful in getting her parents, sisters, nephew, Julius, and niece, Jennifer from the Philippines to come to Hawaii. Due to her full-time job and studies, my mom required assistance from her parents and sisters to raise her children. My mother graduated from the University of Hawaii at Hilo with a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing. As a traveling nurse, she worked in several hospitals in the United States (such as California, Maryland, and New York) as well as Hilo Medical Center and Queen's Medical Center in Hawaii. A family friend, my aunt Elsa Dedman, has been there to support the family and assisted my mom in her nursing career. Last year, my mother retired from her position as a RN with the Southern Nevada Health District and as a Nurse Aide Evaluator. When Southern Hills Hospital originally opened, my mom worked there as an intensive care unit nurse. She also had surgery there on January 27, 2025, for a brain tumor, before being moved to ProCare Hospice on February 16, 2025.
Mila devoted her life to providing opportunities and caring for her family. My mother urged me to pursue a career in nursing, just like her, I fully embraced her recommendations and went to the same university, and earned the same nursing degree, and became an RN. I wanted to make my mother proud of all my accomplishments in life. My mother adored her granddaughters, Jenalynn and Juliana, and from their early childhood, she would go to their school functions and dance performances. My mom was extremely close to my brother, Ricky, and supported him in all his endeavors. My mom also had a special connection with her niece, Jennifer; whom she loved and cared for. Mila united her family and devoted her life toward ensuring their happiness and success. Mila would arrange for each family member's birthday to be celebrated at her house or at a restaurant like her favorite "Lazy Dog" in Townsquare. Mila would also surprise her family with extravagant gifts that they didn't anticipate.
Being a devout follower of Jesus, my mother wrote an amazing, beautiful letter (prayer) to Apo Nazareno (Jesus) last year titled "Prayer for Miracle," in which she prayed to Apo Nazareno to perform a miracle in her life for circumstances that were out of her control. She also expressed her desire for the family's happiness in her trust. Regretfully, on February 21, 2025, the day before my daughter Juliana turned 14, my mother passed away
Apart from her retirement from nursing, my mother enjoyed playing her grand piano, shopping at Nordstrom Rack, taking her dog, Schatzie, to be groomed, and praying to Apo Nazareno at her altar. My mother enjoyed being a dog sitter. She took good care of my cousin Julius's and Aunty Lyn's dogs, Milo and Louis. She also bought treats for our dogs, Maya and Bella, and guinea pig, Bubbles. My mother also spent the summer with my daughters in Hawaii. My mother’s wish was for her sisters and herself to visit the Philippines in the future.
My mom will be remembered for her humble, gentle spirit, her strong faith, and the love she poured into every relationship. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and kindness. Her family and friends will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
My mom, Mila Revilla is survived by, her daughter, Mary Fay Damasco and fiancé Gilbert Talag, her two grandchildren, Jenalynn Lokelani-Faye Damasco and Juliana Rosabelle Damasco, her son, Frederico (Ricky) Revilla Jr., her sister, Germelina (Mely) Viray and husband Jose Pepe Viray of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, along with their seven children (Vladimir, Mary Melody, Dominique, John Lawrence, Mary Melanie, Anthony Joseph of the Philippines, and Maria Carmela of Canada), along with fourteen great-grandchildren, her brother, Benedicto Castulo and wife Gloria P. Castulo of the Philippines, along with their four children (Gerald, Catherine, Mary Fame, and Cherry ann), and six grandchildren, her sister, Erlinda Carralero and departed husband Jules Carralero of Las Vegas, her sister, Marieta (Vicky) Aten and husband Douglas Aten of Hawaii, her nephew Daylemarc Aten of Las Vegas, her sister Emma Pessah and husband Eliahu Pessah of Hawaii, her niece Jennifer Wayte and husband Steve Wayte along with their three children (Alexander, William, and Lillian) of Hawaii, her nephew Julius Castulo and wife Cristela Castulo of Las Vegas, and niece Rachel Lani Pessah of Hawaii,, all of whom adored her. Her life was a true testament to the power of love, and her impact will live on in the lives she touched.
A memorial service for Mila will be held Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 11AM at St Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 6350 N Fort Apache Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89149. Inurnment will follow at Palm Eastern Cemetery.
