Mildred Greeson, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Mildred was born October 18, 1932 to Rev. Aaron Frederick and Mabel Messer. As the daughter of a Methodist minister, Mildred moved many times, living in many towns in Kansas. It was one of those small towns that led her to meeting her husband of forty-six years.
Mildred is survived by her daughter Rhonda Greeson and son-in-law Shane Peterson, her granddaughters Samantha and Melissa Slack, daughter-in-law Tammy Greeson, grandson Eric Greeson, and her great-grandsons Cameron and Caleb Edwards, Ethan Slack and Steven Tino.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Ronald Greeson, her parents Rev. Aaron Frederick and Mabel Messer, her son Steven Greeson, and her daughter Michelle Greeson Slack.
Mildred had many interests: family and friends, travel, music, food, video poker and Vegas Golden Knights hockey! Even in the hospital, if there was a VGK hockey game scheduled, the television was on! But first and foremost, Mildred was a teacher.
Mildred was a lifelong music educator, primarily working with elementary school-age students. She taught in several Albuquerque, New Mexico public schools. During that time, she studied and brought the joy of Orff Schulwerk back to many students and colleagues. She was one of the founding members of the NM AOSA chapter. She later moved to Las Vegas, where she taught at Fay Herron and Jack Dailey elementary schools. She was a member of the NDVC chapter of the AOSA (American Orff-Schulwerk Association.)
Even after retirement Mildred stayed active in music education, often volunteering to assist her daughter, Rhonda, with rehearsals and performances with her students.
Mom, music education was our calling. Your contribution touched thousands of children, and touched many more thousands of children through my teaching and the many other teachers you influenced. Your voice will sing on forever.
