Nadine Nielsen, a resident of Las Vegas and Henderson since 1966, passed away
peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 18, 2026.
Nadine was born on May 13, 1936, in Carroll, Iowa, to Alta and Robert Walker. She
grew up in Irwin, Iowa, where she attended elementary and high school. She went on to
attend Dana College in Blair, Nebraska, where she shared her energetic spirit as both a
basketball player and a cheerleader.
Returning to her hometown of Irwin, Nadine married her childhood and high school
sweetheart, Marlin Nielsen. In 1966, Nadine, Marlin, and their daughter, Kristi, relocated
to Las Vegas. Driven by a passion for learning and helping others, Nadine earned her
Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from UNLV, followed by a Master’s Degree
in Counseling and School Administration.
Nadine devoted many dedicated years to the Clark County School District, serving as
an elementary teacher, counselor, high school dean, assistant principal, and principal.
She was especially proud of her work as a champion for children—instrumentally
advocating for placing guidance counselors in elementary schools—and held a special
place in her heart for the privilege of opening Helen Jydstrup Elementary School. After
retiring from the school district, she continued shaping future educators as the Director
of Teacher Education for Sierra Nevada College (2000–2007) and as the Assistant
Director at Nova Southeastern University (2007–2010).
Following the loss of her beloved husband Marlin in 2014, Nadine was blessed to find
love again and married Ron Flores in 2022.
An outgoing, vivacious, and endlessly generous woman, Nadine brought joy to
everyone around her. She embraced life fully and cherished traveling, listening to music,
dancing, and attending theater and musical performances—both on the Strip and in Sun
City Anthem. Above all, her heart belonged to her family. Her greatest joy was her
daughter, her five grandchildren, and her ten great-grandchildren. She delighted in
every family gathering and was affectionately involved in each of their lives.
She is in survived by her husband Ron Flores, daughter, Kristi (Scott) Carter; five loving
grandchildren: David (Linda) Carter, Heather Valentine, Lindsey Carter, Keri (Joey)
Brown, and Kimberly Carter; ten beautiful great-grandchildren; one brother, Wesley
(JoAnn) Walker; one sister-in-law: Marie (Clay) Pearce along with her beloved nieces;
nephews; and a host of relatives and dear friends. A service will be held to celebrate her
life at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, at Community Lutheran Church (3720 E.
Tropicana Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89121). A reception will follow after the service in which
family and friends are warmly invited. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates
donations sent to St. Jude Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN
