Nestor Emmanuel Tobias was born on October 7th, 1989 in Chalatenango, El Salvador. When he was one year old, he, his mother, and his Aunt Miriam moved to the United States, and he was raised most of his life in Las Vegas, Nevada. He graduated from high school and then furthered his education by studying for a career in the pharmaceutical industry.
Aside from his love of meatballs, his favorite food, Nestor loved reading, history, playing video games and soccer, and enjoyed a fascination with sports cars. According to his friends and siblings, these last two always seemed to be on Nestor’s mind.
Nestor’s wellbeing was of constant concern to his loving mother, Blanca, and father Oscar. Oscar took Nestor under his protective wing when Nestor was only 3 years old, and together with Blanca made a well-provided loving home for Nestor and his younger siblings, Keren and Oscar. He was an amazing older brother, always protective of his younger siblings, ready with advice when they needed it or to calm and comfort them, and ready to play with and entertain them. Nestor was truly a “big brother”.
Nestor also enjoyed a close relationship with his God Jehovah. On March 8th, 2009, he took the most important step of his life by publicly symbolizing his dedication to Jehovah by being baptized at an assembly of Jehovah’s Witnesses in St. George, Utah. He showed his love for God and his fellow man by publicly declaring the good news of God’s kingdom to his neighbors. Those who preached with him will always remember how eloquent he was in explaining the scriptures to those that would listen.
Another beautiful relationship that Nestor enjoyed was with his true love Yhara Valle. They were best of friends, enjoying many years of friendship. This friendship was solidified even more on September 1st, 2010, when Nestor asked for Yhara’s hand in marriage; then joining lives in matrimony with her on November 13th, 2010. Nestor proved to be a loving husband, protective of his loved ones, a hardworking man who always had a smile to share, and the right words for the occasion.
The greatest challenge of his life and his faith in Jehovah came on January 13th, 2012. On that day, he was informed that he had Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a devastating form of cancer. Traditional treatment involves a chemotherapy which essentially destroys the blood cells in one’s body, followed by blood transfusions, a treatment that doctors do not guarantee to work. Nestor strongly believed in God’s command stated in his word the Bible to abstain from blood, however, and sought any alternative treatment that did not involve the use of blood. After receiving two different types of chemotherapeutic treatments, his body succumbed to the effects of the disease and chemotherapy on the afternoon of February 3rd, 2012, at which time he fell asleep in death, and became preserved in God’s memory, awaiting resurrection.
Throughout his final days, Nestor displayed the most positive attitude humanly possible. He was completely sure and trusted that Jehovah was looking out for him. His visitors would often leave his bedside feeling encouraged and strengthened by his smile and positive demeanor. He gave an incredible testimony to his faith in Jehovah God, always making sure to keep God’s name on high and in first place. He was always very thankful of the medical staff treating him, and tried his best to help them understand his position and beliefs. Nestor Emmanuel Tobias – husband, son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. We will miss you, and look forward to your return in the resurrection.
Psalm 91:1, 2
Anyone dwelling in the secret place of the Most High
Will procure himself lodging under the very shadow of the Almighty One.
I will say to Jehovah:
“You are my refuge and my stronghold,
My God, in whom I will trust.”
