Ngu Luong

It started in the Canton province of China. But before too long, Ngu was compelled to flee China with her aunt at the young age of 11 years. It was in Vietnam that she began a new chapter, later meeting and marrying her loving husband, and together building a beautiful life and family. After her husband passed away many years before her, Ngu never remarried, choosing instead to devote her life to caring for and raising her family. She eventually made the courageous journey to the United States during the Vietnam War, carrying with her hope, determination, and dreams of a better future for the generations that followed.

Known lovingly as Mom, Grams, Po, and MaMa, Ngu was truly at the heart of her prolific family, and one of the reasons it's so blessed and close-knit today. She is survived by her four children (unfortunately, her elder son passed away nearly two years prior), 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and many extended family members, most of whom she had the joy of raising and watching grow.

Ngu had an incredible zest for life and a million-dollar smile that could light up a room. She was hopelessly easygoing, warm, and had a special way of creating happiness for those around her. She would make friends anywhere. Oftentimes even through a language barrier, Ngu’s smile was all it took.

She loved looking her best and always took pride in getting dressed and putting herself together. Well into her nineties, Ngu’s nails were always painted, and hands adorned with antique jewelry that she kept safe during her cross-country migration. She loved walking and staying active, traveling the world with her family, trying her luck at casino slot machines, enjoying a good fancy meal or getting her money’s worth at the buffet, collecting family photographs, and catching up on her favorite Chinese and Hong Kong dramas. Some of the happiest memories were simply her enjoying the little things in life.

Even as her health began to decline in her later years, Ngu remained incredibly lucid and strong-willed, quick to smile, laugh, and light up the room around her. She rarely let her physical struggles dim the joy she brought to others, and her strength and positivity carried through to the very end.

Ngu gave far more than a lifetime of wonderful memories. She gave her family the foundation to thrive, and a legacy built on sacrifice, determination, and unconditional love. Her beautiful presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on through that legacy.

As her family, we will hold her memory close, retell her story, and carry her love forward to future generations. With immeasurable love, Ngu will forever be a part of us.
