She was born December 10, 1926 in Omaha, Nebraska to loving parents Frances and Roy Nelson. She married her partner for life William (Bill) Sterbens in 1948. The Pope would bless their marriage in 1998. Norma and Bill traveled the world and while in Las Vegas loved the shows on the Strip, played nickel slots for hours while Bill enjoyed Blackjack. They were married for 55 years before his passing October 26, 2002.
Norma was a mom, grandma, great-grandma, great-great-grandma, aunt, great-aunt and a friend. She made everyone in her family feel loved and special. She was extremely well read and had amazing knowledge of world events. The best hot chocolate chip cookies were always served upon arrival at her home. She enjoyed ice skating, watching sports and theatre in her active years. She was fond of the Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens with their changing scenery of the seasons.
Norma was a rock to so many and set an example of grace, love and forgiveness. She taught us to have faith, be kind to others and love unconditionally. She will be deeply missed by all that were blessed to have known her.
She was preceded in death by her younger sister Joan Herdzina.
She is survived by five of her six children. Our beloved brother Lee Sterbens passed and is survived by his wife Allison and son Zach; her surviving children, Nancy Sterbens (Michael) and children Denise and Debbie; Mark Sterbens Sr. (Terri) and children Mark Jr. and Christie; Ann Sterbens and children Christopher and Carrie; Matt Sterbens (Joelle) and children Ben and Brooke; Colleen Bade (Roy) and children Trevor, Amanda, Chris and Shannon; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren to carry on her amazing legacy.
