Pedro Mora Garza, 86, peacefully entered into eternal life on October 15, 2026. Pedro was born on April 1, 1940, in Pharr, Texas, second of ten children, and first son to Santos and Rosa Garza. Pedro’s life was a story of hard work, strength, faith, humility and deep commitment to his family. He lovingly retold the story of how he met and married his beloved wife, Mariana Cerda, in January 1961. His enduring love for Mariana lasted 65 wonderful years.
Together, Pedro and Mariana travelled across the United States as migrant workers. In 1966, Pedro fought for the rights of migrant workers alongside Cesar Chavez during the historic walk from Delano to Sacramento, California, before settling in the Chicagoland area in 1967. He went on to work at the Caterpillar Tractor Company as a skilled machine operator and proud union member for over 36 years before retiring.
After giving his life to Jesus, Pedro dedicated his time to serving his church and community in Aurora, Illinois, and later in Alamo, Texas. He and Mariana found joy in opening their home to others and welcomed every visitor with a warm meal, friendly conversation, and heartfelt prayers.
Above all else, Pedro prioritized his children and family with encouraging words, funny anecdote and a helping hand when needed. He always chose to see the best in those around him and he greeted everyone with a big smile and firm handshake. Those who had the pleasure of meeting him have fond memories of his witty humor, compassionate heart, and unbelievable, yet true, life stories.
Pedro was preceded in death by his son Eddy and is survived by his wife, Mariana Cerda Garza; his children, Sylvia, Diana, Roel, Thelma, and Priscilla; his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he has entered eternal rest with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
