Pedro (PERL) Lorenzo Virata Tinio was born on April 20, 1954 in Quezon City, Philippines to Ret. Col. Jose M. Tinio Sr. and Dolores Beech Virata Tinio. He has one older only sibling Jose Virata Tinio, Jr. He passed away on December 26, 2020 at the age of 66 years old.
He attended Catholic Elementary Schools in Washington D.C. and graduated with Bachelor’s Degrees in Architecture and Military Science from the University of the Philippines.
He ranked number 6th in the 1978 Philippine Architecture National Board of Examination. After practicing briefly his profession in Manila, Philippines, he and his family immigrated to the U.S.A. in 1984. Early on, he became a member of the American Institute of Architects reaching to boast an Emeritus Status.
The pinnacle of his career as an architect was when he spearheaded the Architectural design of Georgetown University built in Doha, Qatar. It afforded him to travel and play Golf, his true passion. He enjoyed playing GOLF literally around the world and experienced a “HOLE IN ONE’ while playing in Qatar!
Aside from Golf, which you’ll hear a lot from his friends and family, he was a Blackbelt holder in Tae Kwon Do martial arts and notably been a participant in the 2nd World TaeKwonDo Tournament held in Seoul, Korea. He was active in many organizations close to his heart. UP Vanguard is one of them, the Maharlika Golf Club in Las Vegas, NV, and the countless Golf Clubs in Manila, Qatar, Turkey and around the U.S. He contributed to many charities in the U.S. as well as in Manila, Philippines.
He was a doting Uncle to his only nephew, Ari and only niece, Elle. Here’s a note from his niece “My Tito Dab scared me growing up because he was super tall compared to me. In most recent years, I learned a lot more GOLF and NCIS than I’d planned on knowing (LOL). He showed me around Manila for an impromptu trip in 2015, where we spent hours in a car to see some of the most beautiful mountains in the motherland. I will always remember the postcards he sent from abroad, written in that perfect “architect” handwriting that looked like printed Font; the countless gifts from his generous heart that we received; his kind and loving demeanor. We love you and miss you Tito Dab, may you Rest in Peace!”
He will be deeply missed by his Family, the Viratas, the Coscolluelas, the surviving 2 of the 3HG Partnership, the countless friends he made and the people who knew him. His body will be laid to rest at Palm Eastern Cemetery at 7600 So. Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123 on January 21, 2021.
