Remigio Tiamzon Espiritu, a longtime resident of the Las Vegas area, passed away early morning on September 23, 2020 at his home. He was known as Remie to his friends and family, Dad to his sons, and Grandpa to his grandkids.
He was born on February 21, 1949 in Concepcion, Tarlac, Philippines to Alberto and Pascuala Espiritu. He found his soul mate and partner for life at a young age, when he married Evelyn Ponce Cabalo on November 14, 1970.
He received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and emigrated to the United States with his family, settling down in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1974. He worked in the hotel industry and raised three sons. Over the course of his time, there he bowled, owned a boat, held garage parties, and made frequent trips to the beach.
In 1996, he and his wife moved to California where they started a care home business. On reaching the age of 65, he and his wife retired and settled in Las Vegas. While in retirement, they visited their eldest son Raymond and his family in Virginia and made frequent trips back to Hawaii and the Philippines. The Philippine family farm passed to Remie after his parents passed and he shared it with his remaining siblings.
Remie loved good food and meeting new people. Everyone he met remarked on how friendly and happy he was and how he was quick to laugh and ready with a joke. He was also ready to help raise his grandkids and watched them grow from babies to caring and quick-witted young girls.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his three sons, Raymond, Erwin and Reuben; and his two grandchildren.
A wake will be held on October 1, 2020 starting at 4:00pm at Palm Eastern Mortuary, followed by services at 6:00pm. At some point in the near future his family hopes to bring his ashes back to Hawaii and to his final resting place at Valley of the Temples.
He will be remembered always.
