Ricardo Cuevas Reinaga was born on February 7th, 1938, in a small ranch his family-owned named Agua Blanca, in Jalisco, Mexico. That very day is when our family came to be. Ricardo was always a mellow, light hearted, and amazing person to meet. Everyone who came in contact with him, instantly grew a liking to him. Not only was he a handsome person but very lovable. His easy-going demeanor along with his light spirit, put everyone at ease. He was a very hard-working individual as well. At a very young age he was working in his family’s ranch and also a labor worker in the fields. You can now see Ricardo’s very hard-working character that he instilled in all of his survived 8 children.
In this very small ranch of the Agua Blanca, he met his beautiful wife Lidia. They met as children, and little did Lidia know he had a liking for her. Lidia and her family moved to another small town in Sand Diego, Mexico shortly after a few years. Ricardo would visit her small town frequently and it wasn’t until their later teen years where he confessed his love for his dear Lidia. They were at a baile or as you would say in English a club like bar. They were dancing and he proposed to Lidia, and said, “I don’t want to waste any time, I want to get married to you as soon as possible.” He didn’t want anyone else to snatch up his woman Lidia. They later married on February 13th, 1965, 55 years ago. They then raised 8 children: Cecilia, Aurora, Yesenia, Maribel, Yolidia, Ricardo, Marco, and Miguel.
Ricardo and Lidia wanting to give their children more opportunities came to the states in 1990. They settled in Las Vegas, Nevada. Here Ricardo worked in the local casino industry as a dish washer at the Mirage for many years. In Las Vegas they both made a great life and loved being with their family. Ricardo’s most joyous occasions in life was being surrounded and loved with his large family. He loved, cherished, and taught everyone the importance of being a united family. The definition of family is: People in your life who are close to your heart, who bring out the best in you. Who laugh, celebrate, and dream with you. Who love you indefinitely. Ricardo definitely lived by this definition. It did not matter who you were or what you have done, he loved and treated every single family member equally. He had a huge heart and was the most forgiving man you would ever meet. He never turned his back on anyone. He loved to help and please his family. He had 19 Grandchildren: Cesar, Steve, Marvelyn, Allan, Allyson, Emily, Kathleen, Jocelyn, Andy, Ybette, Karen, Enrique, Sebastian, Steven, Mikaela, Nikko, Adrian, Anthony, and Valeria. He also got to meet and enjoy four great-grandchildren: Mia, Santino, Christian, and Roman.
Ricardo and Lidia were also very devout Jehovah’s Witnesses. They were taught how to read and write in Mexico by 2 missionary Jehovah’s Witnesses. They also were taught Bible truths and also instilled all their Bible knowledge and principles to their children and grandchildren. Being a Jehovah’s witness and living by their belief system was also a very important and evident in his life. You would see them go out in the ministry weekly, along with attending their local kingdom hall meetings for worship. He was a very faithful and devout Christian throughout his life. He was a great example to his family along with his spiritual family in the congregation.
Ricardo had various hobbies and he enjoyed, hunting and fishing with his sons. Enjoying delicious meals with his daughters, and loved being spoiled by his grandchildren. He was always a goofy grandfather and that is why all the grandchildren loved him. He always had a smile on his face from ear to ear. You would also on occasion catch him making faces right back to the grandkids. One of his wife’s favorite memory was their nicknames to one another, was Vieja and Viejo. Which translates to old woman and old man. Well one day Lidia told him she didn’t like to be called that anymore. Lidia then started calling him by his name. Ricardo then petitioned he rather wanted to be called Viejo, because he stated that when you call me by my name, I feel like I am in trouble, I rather be called old man. So, their nicknames stayed Viejo and Vieja for the rest of their time together. That is the humorous person he always was.
There is a nice quote that states: “Love is the greatest gift that one generation can leave another.” (Richard Garnett) That is what Ricardo did indeed. He loved with his whole heart and anyone that got to experience that kind of love was very lucky. Ricardo will be missed and his memory will forever be engrained in our minds and hearts. However, he and his love will never be forgotten. Te queremos mucho abuelo viejitio por siempre.
Siempre tu Familia Amada
