

SFC RICHARD LETENDRE U.S. Army, Retired Beloved husband and father, Richard Letendre, of Henderson, passed away gracefully Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at home, following a difficult battle against cancer. He was born in Rochester, N.H., to Ernest Noel Letendre and Christine Mae Beckwith. Richard graduated from Holy Rosary High School in 1959. He proudly served his country in Korea and Vietnam. He first served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years as a bio med engineer. He also later retired from Kaiser Hospital in California, finally retiring in Henderson. Richard was tri-lingual, speaking fluent French and Spanish, as well as English. He was deployed to Spain for a year as a young man, where he began his trade and taught English. He loved traveling with his wife to Canada, England, Scotland, and many beautiful cathedrals throughout Italy. He also traveled extensively through the various states in his beloved America. Richard enjoyed classical music, opera, literature, hunting, fishing and was an avid gardener. His rose garden was extraordinary. Richard was a proud member of the American Legion, Eagles and the Elks. He became a life member of the Elks and was currently officer of the year. He was dedicated to the lodge, fundraising and helping others. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Sun Chae; his loving children, Donald and Michelle Letendre and Christina Gluhaich (Daniel); his grandchildren, Dominic, Grant and Sophia; his siblings, Roger and Elaine, and their spouses, Susan and Paul; and nieces and nephews, Kimberly, Jennifer and Christopher. He is well-loved by many aunts, uncles and cousins around the world. Viewing will be 1-5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Palm/King David Memorial Chapel, 2697 E. Eldorado Lane, Las Vegas. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church, 130 N. Pecos Road, Henderson NV 89074. Burial with military honors will be at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Boulder City.
