Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Bob was born in Astoria, Queens. He was the son of the late John and Florence Botta Manta.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol and his daughter Laura’s life partner, David Stedman.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Helen Schieber; daughters, Victoria Nilson and husband, Chris; Laura Manta; and grandchildren, Jake Nilson and Shelby Tedder (Adam).
Our family is extremely grateful to the people who lovingly cared for Bob during his long illness, especially Stephanie Flores and Debbie Leto who exceeded their roles as caregivers to become like family to Bob.
Bob grew up in Astoria, Queens, with his sister Carol and his cousins Theresa Angeloro Dowdy (Bob) and Mary Ann Angeloro Chamides (Ron). He matriculated from Brooklyn Technical High School and Queens College, where he was a member of the Dead End Boys fraternity. Bob earned his MBA from New York University and went on to work for 40 years in New York as a stockbroker. He was a long time resident of Oyster Bay and Manhasset, Long Island before relocating to his second home in Las Vegas.
Bob played hockey and baseball in his youth and later was an avid tennis player and golfer. He was most proud of his two holes in one at his home course, Brookville Country Club.
Bob loved classical and jazz music and adored Frank Sinatra. He was an enthusiastic vibraphonist and drummer and an aspiring saxophone player. But most of all he loved to sing, everywhere and to everyone, in his classic Bobby Blue Eyes way.
Bob was gregarious, outgoing and charming. If he chatted to you once you were his best friend. He was a natural born salesman with a love for the spotlight and he was generous to a fault. He adored his family and we will miss him dearly.
As grandson Jake Robert, wrote: “I couldn’t help but think of Grandad singing, ‘Fly me to the Moon and let me Play among the Stars’…In other words (Grandad), I love you.” As do we all.
Burial in Las Vegas is private; a Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 18 at 4 pm at Palm Eastern In Las Vegas.
