He proudly served the US Army for twenty years. First he specialized as a signal and communication specialist, then as a combat medical specialist. He received many accolades and recognition during his years of service which took him to all over the globe and country. He completed basic training in 1976 at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. After that he was stationed in: Fort Monmouth, New Jersey; Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Riley, Kansas; Schofields Barracks, Hawaii; Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort Ord, California; Fort Jackson, South Carolina where he returned to retire in May 1995. He also had two TDYs (temporary duty assignment) in Germany and two tours of duty in Korea. More importantly, his service time forged many lifetime friends and brotherhoods. After retiring from the military, he worked for the US Postal Service as a mail carrier for eleven years.
Rudy had many hobbies. He enjoyed passing the time fishing. There was nothing more satisfying or relaxing to him than casting out a line and bringing home his catch. When fishing or hunting was not possible, he gardened. He was proud of his flower garden, most especially his rosebushes which included purple ones.
Through the years, he traveled all across the States and continent. His many road-trips brought him and family to various national parks, beautiful landmarks, and unique places all over the States. These trips are commemorated by his wife’s infamous souvenir magnet collection.
Most will remember Rudy for his distinctive laugh; his love for karaoke and his favorite song “My Way;” or his staunch patriotism for his homeland, the Philippines, and his nation, the US. Those closest to him will remember his huge generosity; his wise insight; his hard fast loyalty.
He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Teresita "Tessie," and their two daughters, Antonette and Sharon. He also leaves son-in-law, Jordan, and three grandchildren, Darius, Seraphina, and Aurora.
