Many years ago, when I worked in the ticketing office at UNLV, Mr. Shirley became a bright and familiar presence in my days. He would stop by often for basketball games, always bringing light and warmth with him. Over time, we forged a friendship that continued through emails while I was away at college—

Just the other day, I found his old email address tucked away in a box at home, and it reminded me of how much joy he brought into that first job of mine. He wasn’t just a patron; he was a wonderful person who made the workplace feel like a place you wanted to be.

I’ll always remember him with a smile.

Allen, I am so sorry to learn of the passing of your father and wife.  Lisa and I are visiting with Aunt Marcella and her family in Colorado. She stated that Betty called her with the news. Again, I am so sorry.

Roland was a very special person.  He would go out of his way to help anyone.  If you were a friend of his, you could ask anything of him.  He was also a lot of fun to be around,  His generous spirit, his clever wit and sense of humor were very uplifting.   You could always expect a hearty and heartfelt conversation, even when you disagreed with him.  I consider myself very lucky for having known him.  He will always have a very special place in my heart.  I am so sad that he is gone from  us, but maybe we will meet again.  God bless you Roland.
