It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rona Arlene Mendelson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and cherished member of our community.
Rona was the devoted wife of David Mendelson for 57 years. She was a loving mother to Jarrid Mendelson (Trish) and Jenn Greenis(Rich), and a proud grandmother to Hannah and Bradon Greenis. She also adored her many grand-puppies, who brought her great joy.
Rona dedicated 37½ years of her life to teaching elementary school, touching the lives of countless children and families. Teaching was not simply her profession — it was her lifelong calling. She remained an educator at heart throughout her life, always eager to share knowledge, encouragement, and kindness.
A founding member of Congregation Ner Tamid since its opening in 1974, Rona was deeply connected to her synagogue community and built friendships that lasted 40 and 50 years. She had a special gift for conversation and connection, often spending hours on the phone with the many friends she treasured.
Rona had a remarkable talent for cooking by taste, creating meals filled with love and warmth. After retirement, she and David enjoyed traveling the world together, visiting Africa, Austria, Switzerland, the Mediterranean, the Baltic, and the Caribbean. She took special delight in discovering wonderful restaurants wherever she traveled.
Rona touched more lives than can be counted — through her family, her students, her friendships, and her community.
Her memory will forever be a blessing.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 3:30pm, March 4, 2026, at Congregation Ner Tamid.
