Ronald Frank Driggins was born on February 15, 1942 in San Diego, California to Frank Eugene Driggins and Ethel Louise McCann. Ron and his two siblings, an older brother, Bro. Robert Edward Driggins (OMI), and a younger brother, Michael Driggins, grew up in and around Dunlap, Iowa.
After graduating high school, he served in the U.S. Navy in Southwest Asia during the Vietnam Era from 1960 to 1964. Following his stint in the military, Ron continued to serve as a U.S. Merchant Marine in the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command as a Signalman in the Western Pacific for over 30 years.
While serving as a Merchant Marine, he met Fortunata "Titay" C. Rico in Olongapo City in the Philippines, and they were married in December of 1979 and renewed their vows in a religious ceremony in 1981. To this union, one child was born: a son, Frank Pete Driggins.
Ron was a loving husband to Titay and a great father to Frank. He was a quiet man who made no enemies and was loved by all who truly knew him. He attended Mass daily and was a loyal and faithful parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Community where he once served as Eucharistic Minister before his health declined. He was an avid reader as well as a very cautious, careful and courteous driver who lived his life the same way.
Ron's parents and brothers preceded him in death. It is believed the recent loss of his brother Michael was especially painful and a contributing factor in his April 26th heart attack and eventual passing on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at 1:00 p.m., surrounded by loved ones in his Las Vegas home.
Left to mourn Ron's passing are his wife Titay and son Frank (Jennie) of Las Vegas, NV, sister-in-law Karen Driggins of Omaha, NE, niece Marilyn "Bong" (Ronald) Green and great niece, Emerald Green of Henderson, NV, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends in the Philippines, Hawaii, Iowa, the United Kingdom and around the globe who all loved him dearly. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
