Ron graduated from Parker High School, where he met his high school sweetheart and wife, Dolores “Dee” Smith. That began a very special relationship that lasted a lifetime. He was drafted into the Army in 1966, served in the Vietnam Conflict and received an honorable discharge in 1969.
Ron earned his bachelor’s degree from Chicago State University and a Masters of Public Administration from Roosevelt University. He joined the Chicago Police Department in 1973 as a police officer and was promoted to Sergeant in 1981, Lieutenant in 1988 and to Commander in 1994. Ron earned deep respect in the community and among his fellow officers. He was consistently praised for his outstanding leadership and exemplary service. After a very fulfilling and rewarding career with the Chicago Police Department, he retired in 1999 and relocated to Nevada with his wife.
Still very young, remaining intellectually curious and wanting to continue making the world a better place, he occasionally worked as a substitute teacher in the Clark County School District and then joined the Clark County Public Defender's Office in 2004 and retired in 2011.
Ron traveled the world with Dee, family and friends and especially enjoyed road trips with his grandchildren. They adoringly called him Papa. He was a sports enthusiast, loved music and golf and knew how to have a lot of fun. Ron and Dee would host the most amazing parties and we will always remember his family blackjack nights, pillow fights with the grandkids, and those late-night bid whist tournaments.
Ron was a dedicated family man and was especially proud of his three children. He generously extended his fatherly love to many other family members and friends. He was a man of integrity and honor, and pursued everything with excellence. He had a huge heart and would always show up for others, offering kindness, support and love.
Ron departed this life on June 21, 2021. He suffered from the neurological disorder, Lewy Body Dementia with Parkinsonism. He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Dolores Ann Evans; his dog, Tiger Woods Evans; three children, Denita Willoughby (Anthony), Ronald Evans Jr (Regina) and Deana Evans; four sisters: Carolyn Collins, Lillian Wallace (Larry), Linda Webster, Lynette Cannon; three grandchildren, Michael Willoughby, Ryan Willoughby and Ronald Evans III; his cousin James West; his 12 nieces and nephews: Kwamin Wallace and Evan Wallace; Anthony Webster III, Nicole Steel, Karmen Steel, Terry J Cannon, Melinda Cannon, Dawn Cannon, Leslie Turner, Tasha Welton, Nicholas Mobley and Jacquette McFarland Smith and his 15 grandnieces and grandnephews; Jaden Green, Kaylee Cannon, DeJona Cannon, Amira Webster, Lincoln Webster, Remi Wallace, Paris McFarland, Imani Washington, Anthony McFarland Smith, Nicholas Mobley Jr., Nasir Mobley, Taylor Pitter, Harmony Welton, Calvin Robinson and Reagan Robinson; along with a host of other family members and friends.
