

Ross James (Micciche) Mitchell passed away peacefully after a three year fight with cancer. He was born in Pittston, PA on September 11, 1925 and moved to Buffalo, NY at age 16. Ross worked at the Hotel Stuyvesant, and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943. After returning from the service, he worked for the John W. Cowper Construction Co., moving to Las Vegas in 1959 to build the first high-rise building in Nevada (11 stories - Sahara Hotel). He started in the hotel business at the Desert Inn and moved to the New Frontier Hotel as Bell Captain when it opened in 1968. He retired 25 years later..
Ross was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Patricola and his parents. He is survived by his loving wife Laura; sisters Angeline Stablewski, Northridge, CA and Mary (Fred) Puntoriero, Reseda, CA; sons Leonard Mitchell, Hermosa Beach, CA and Jeffrey Mitchell, Mukilteo, WA; step-children Gregory (Vergie) Goodrich, Little Valley, NY, Gale (George) See, Randolph, NY, and Gilda Moore, Groveland, CA. He took special joy and interest in his 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and, also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, along with many dear relatives and friends.
Ross touched many people during his lifetime with his charming personality, positive outlook on life and desire to be a friend. His stories about the days of old Las Vegas and interaction with a host of celebrities is legendary among his family and friends - something we will all miss. Most of all, we will miss the time and effort he devoted to each of us to make us feel special.
Memorial service with the Marine Honor Guard will be held at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Boulder City at 10 AM Monday March 28th Afterwards the family will receive friends at Palm Mortuary 7600 So. Eastern Ave., from 1 to 4 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice or any charity of your choice.
