Ruel Ricardo Meikle was born in Kingston, Jamaica at Nuttall hospital to Angela Ross and Roy Meikle on November 14, 1977. He migrated to the U.S. at the tender age of 1½ years old. In his early childhood Ruel grew up with his mother and grandma Vina, uncles Lee and Lance, and aunts Georgia and Carol. Ruel was a carbon copy of his father.
Ruel loved the outdoors, and it was hard to keep him inside. He was great with skateboards and a master at riding his bike. His mother constantly bought him custom bicycles.
He was very loving and the sweetest child to raise. He attended Harley Harmon Elementary School and at eight years old went to karate school, where he mastered Jiu jitsu and received his brown belt. From Harley, Rue went on to attend Woodbury Jr. High.
His mom married when Ruel was twelve and they moved in with their blended family, which included his stepdad Anthony Patterson, brother Renard Patterson, and sister Rennesha Patterson and Michael Eskridge Jr. Almost immediately, Ruel formed a loving and inseparable bond with Tony, Renard, Rennesha, and Michael and soon after the family welcomed their youngest sibling, Shanice Patterson.
He went to Bishop Gorman for his freshman year of high school and Durango High School his sophomore year. While in high school, Ruel was involved in tons of extracurricular activities, including modeling and track. He booked modeling gigs for both the Macys and Dillard’s catalogs. He thoroughly enjoyed modeling and his family was supportive and attended all his events.
Ruel had quite the personality in high school and was considered a ladies’ man and a class clown. He was also a member of the Japan Clan crew - a squad Ruel, his best friend Cub, and friends created while meeting at Durango. Ruel transferred to Bonanza High School his senior year where he graduated.
After graduating from high school, Ruel registered for cosmetology school. He graduated at nineteen and started his first job as a hair stylist at Regis Salon in the Meadows Mall. He excelled in his profession and his clients raved about his work. It was also during this time he fell in love with Nikkia Bannister, and they went on to welcome their beautiful daughter Arielle Meikle on April 24, 2002.
Looking for a change, Ruel eventually relocated to Portland, Oregon with a friend. He got a job working at the Picasso Salon in Lake Oswego as a hair stylist. His laid back and kindhearted demeanor made it easy for Ruel to make lots of friends and of course Ruel loved nature, which made Oregon ideal for him.
Ruel returned to live in Las Vegas when the mother of his daughter passed away on July 7, 2013. His daughter was ten. After returning to Las Vegas, Ruel began working at The Boulevard Salon. He later welcomed a beautiful daughter named Kristalle Meikle on October 4, 2015.
The last two years Ruel took a break from cosmetology and decided to try his hand working at the dispensary. He flourished in this new career as he knew the business well and was excellent at customer relations.
Ruel always made an effort to put family first and attended all the family gatherings. He loved his mother and siblings dearly and made trips back and forth to Jamaica to see his brothers Michael and Romero. His cousins loved hanging around him as he was the life of the party, and he had an uncanny ability to make them all feel special and loved. He had such a positive aura and lighted up any room he walked in.
One of Ruel’s greatest accomplishments was taking his responsibility as a single father serious to raise a beautiful and ambitious young lady. The love they had for one another was unconditional.
In addition to being a positive source of energy, Ruel was very handsome, had impeccable style and was equally charismatic as he was dapper. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel special, even if they weren’t, as people were just drawn to him. He was never one to judge – his heart was full of love, and you could feel it.
Ruel died surrounded by his loving family and friends, who traveled both near and far to be with him, on July 31, 2022. He left behind his two daughters Arielle Meikle and Kristalle Meikle; mother Angela Ross; brothers Renard Patterson, Michael Meikle and Romero Meikle; sisters Shanice Patterson and Rennesha Patterson (RIP); as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members.
