

Samuel O. Hawkins, III was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Samuel will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Samuel was born on November 21, 1945 at San Francisco Ice House in San Francisco, California. He was the son of Gerald and Catherine Hawkins. Samuel grew up in Northern California, Utah, and Las Vegas, Nevada. Samuel was raised with three siblings. He had two older brothers, Jerry and Wayne, and a younger brother, Harry. Samuel was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
Growing up Samuel had a number of interests. He took part in baseball and softball. However, to young Samuel, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends. His favorite classes in his High School years were History and Study Hall. Samuel attended Davis High School and Las Vegas High School and graduated in 1965.
On October 16, 1965 Samuel exchanged wedding vows with Janice Lynn Moore at the Golden Wedding Chapel of Reno, Nevada. Empathic and loyal, Samuel was committed to making his new life with Janice the best years of their life. Samuel worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Samuel was blessed with two children, one daughter, Dianna and a son named Justin. Another blessing for Samuel was the gift of four grandchildren; Gage, Gillian, Grace and Crew. Fortunately, Samuel enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Samuel worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was a Fleet Operations Manager. Samuel always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Samuel was an official member of the United States Army. He was a proud and honest soldier for the United States of America. He became an Army Veteran and he served his country in the Vietnam Conflict. Through his tenacity, hard work, and dedication he achieved the rank of SPEC 5. His fellow soldiers viewed him as a brother in arms.
Samuel enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were being an avid television viewer, and he loved to BBQ. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others. Samuel found pleasure in sports. Recreational sports included softball. Samuel was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Tops on his list were baseball and football.
Samuel passed away on September 9, 2011 at Al Udeid Air Force Base Qatar. He is survived by his wife Janice Hawkins, children Justin & Dianna and four grandchildren Gage, Gillian, Grace and Crew.
Simply stated, Samuel was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Samuel leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Samuel O. Hawkins, III.
