Sandra Annetta Tappes was born on January 19, 1948, in Wayne, MI. She was the youngest of her three siblings and the second daughter of Shelton and Nancy Nichols Tappes, who both preceded her in death. Fondly known as Sandy for her natural sandy blonde hair color, she enjoyed early childhood summers spent with her maternal family and favorite aunts Jennie and Lucy in Philadelphia, PA.
Sandy accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted Christian. She was a long-time member of People’s Community Baptist church in Michigan. She later joined with her late husband, Larry Sallee’, New Bethel Baptist church in Detroit, where they were members until they relocated to Henderson, Nevada and joined Calvary Chapel Baptist Church. Sandy grew up and attended Inkster, MI public schools, graduating from Inkster High in1969. Inspired by the Motown music era in Detroit during the 1960’s, Sandy and a group of girlfriends discovered their singing talents and enjoyed performing at the local dance hall.
Sandy later met and married Samuel Warren and had one beloved daughter, Kyra Marie, her pride and joy. Sandy decided to attend beauty school and started her career as a manicurist. Her professional demeanor, abilities, and out-going personality helped her build a wonderful following where she enjoyed many years of success.
Sandy went back to school in 1982, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She remained in the medical profession in mental health and later as a nurse in medication treatment management until her retirement. Her innate ability to care and show love for others made her a natural in the healthcare field.
In 1993, Sandy married Larry and gained another daughter, Erika. They were excited to move to Nevada in 1999 to begin their retirement. She quickly got to know her new neighbors, became involved and was happy to find ways to help bring everyone together. Sandy enjoyed decorating the clubhouse bulletin boards and would always add a special touch.
Sandy was loved and had a way of connecting with family and friends. She has left us all with blessed and priceless memories from Michigan family get-togethers to gatherings with her Nevada neighbors at the pool, birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions. Always there with a warm smile, her earthly presence will be missed but she will forever be in our hearts.
