Sidney Jay Barcelon was born on March 15, 1968, in Denver, Colorado and passed away on February 21, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada surrounded by his mother, sister, and four daughters.
Jay brought warmth, humor, and unmistakable presence into the world from the very beginning. You could often find him on a golf course or immersed in a good book by the pool with a glass of iced tea or a giant Coke with extra ice. He loved teaching his girls about good music and testing fate with fireworks and watching re-runs of all of his favorite classic movies. He had a deep appreciation for conversation and laughter. With his welcoming smile and quick wit, he could strike up a conversation with just about anyone and leave them smiling. His sense of humor was effortless, and his banter was one of his many gifts.
Jay was also a proud business owner in his life. He was well loved by his employees, who respected not only his leadership but the way he treated people — with humor, loyalty, and genuine care. He valued hard work and took pride in his business and career.
He found community and chosen family among a close-knit group of friends at his local gathering spot, the Kopper Keg — a place reminiscent of the camaraderie portrayed in Cheers, where everybody knew your name. There, as in so many spaces he occupied, he built lasting friendships rooted in laughter and loyalty.
Though life brought its complexities, he cared deeply for those he loved and was fiercely protective of them.
He is survived by his mother, Linda Thornton; his sister, Shawnene Krebs and husband Harold; and his four daughters, Sydney Malmrose, Bailey Barcelon, Reagan Barcelon, and Andrea Skidmore and grandson Graham Malmrose.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Barcelon.
Jay will be remembered for his laughter, his stories, his comforting presence, and the many moments of joy he created for those around him.
