It is from her mother, Pilar, that she inherited her compassion, faith in God and entrepreneurial talents. From her father, a World War II US Army veteran, she acquired her organizational skills, drive and commitment.
Susan was the third of seven children: Letica
Esther
Susan
Elizabeth
Regor (aka: Bobby)
Rudolpho
Voltair (aka: Bubot).
She graduated from Rizal High School where she was very popular and was an accomplished dancer of traditional Philippine dances.
After high school Susan attended classes at the University of the East in Manila, Philippines where she took general business classes.
This led to her first job as an Administrative Assistant at Pyramid Insurance in Manila.
She was the mother of three children: Catherine, Joseph and Mary; and grandmother of three grandchildren: Samuel, Mya and Marissa.
As a “cradle” Catholic she had a very strong faith in God and a great love for her patron, St. Anthony; a faith that she passed on to her children. In 1982 she immigrated to the United States with her three children. Seven years later, in 1989, she became a United States citizen.
She was employed by The Salvation Army in San Francisco for 18 years, first as secretary to the Personnel Director and later as the Personnel Director herself.
She married William Hillo on February 8, 1995. Susan and William were married for 27 years and lived together until her passing.
In 2000, Susan and William moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to be near her sisters and brother and to fulfill their dream of owning their own home.
She worked at McCarran Airport, (which has been renamed Harry Reid Airport), for 18 years until she retired in 2018.
Family was very important to Susan. She was the matriarch of the family. She was always concerned for the wellbeing of her husband, her children and their spouses and her grandchildren.
She will be remembered as very personable and creative, especially in the decorative arts. She managed her home and family all while working full time and managing a side business. She demonstrated her courage and determination to succeed in everything she did.
She was a fighter to the end and never gave up on life, even though later in life she was struggling with Alzheimer’s Dementia.
She passed away on November 27, 2022 after suffering a massive stroke. She was 79 years old. She is survived by her husband William, children Catherine and her husband Kevin, Joseph and his wife Elia and Mary and her husband Marc, grandchildren Samuel, Mya and Marissa as well as her sister Elizabeth and brother Voltair.
She will be greatly missed.
