The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be please made to the 'Central Live' fund at Central Church Henderson. [Music Ministry] Dena had been a Las Vegas resident since 1974. Born December 8, 1932 in Bethany, OK and raised in Pomeroy and Spokane, WA. Her father was a Nazarene pastor Rev. C. Wesley Jones and mother Velta Henrietta Jones. At a young age, Dena was passionately drawn to music. She graduated from Northwest Nazarene University with a Voice and Education Major, Minor in Violin and earned the position of first chair in the University Orchestra. During those college years, as a very accomplished musician, Dena played violin and sang with a musical quartet that preformed many private and community concerts as well as traveling across many states preforming to promote her University. After being married on August 6, 1955 she lived in Nampa, ID, Longview, WA, Roseburg and Corvallis, OR, Kalispell, and Great Falls, MT, and Klamath Falls, OR before coming to Las Vegas. Dena worked full time as an Elementary School teacher for many years and later switched to part time in Secondary and High School grades so she could spend more time at home to raise her children. She gave voice lessons to many and directed choir during the part time years. Later she owned and operated Boyd’s Poly Bags Inc. where she delivered to many companies in the Las Vegas and Henderson area. She became the Personal Assistant – Secretary for Don who started his business, Boyd Investment Services as a financial advisor in 1987 which they owned. She had been a Chairman for the Christian Women’s Club before moving to Las Vegas and then Director of Events for many years here. Dena continued to be involved in music and was a choir director at her church where she lead choir for Sunday services and holiday special concerts. [Cantatas] She also was a wedding coordinator for Central Church Henderson. Her husband Donald L. Boyd of 61 years recently passed January 31, 2017. She has a brother M. Keith Jones (Heang), two daughters Diane and Denise (Bill Lynn) and two sons Richard (Linda) and Darryl (Cary). She has five grandchildren Shannon, Erin, Bryan (Whitney), Evan and Jeffrey and two great grandchildren Lyric and Cade. Dena encouraged people around her with love, faith, and music.
