

Virginia Urqueta, a beloved mother, cherished grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on August 25, 2024, at the age of 88. Born in Santa Maria, Bulacan, Philippines, on July 23, 1936, Virginia’s family later moved to Mandaluyong City.
Despite marrying and having children at a young age, Virginia remained steadfast in her pursuit of a college education. She graduated from The National Teachers College (NTC) with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (B.S.E.Ed.) and completed the academic requirements for a Master of Arts in Education (M.A. Education.), with a concentration in Special Education, from Arellano University.
Virginia devoted her career to teaching at Mauway Elementary School as a special education teacher, where her compassionate approach transformed the lives of students with learning disabilities. She addressed their unique needs with empathy and exceptional care. Her commitment to education earned her deep respect and affection from both students and their families, leaving a lasting legacy in the community.
In 1978, Virginia moved to the United States in search of greater opportunities and a brighter future for her children. She lived with her mother in East St. Louis, Illinois for a short time before relocating to Las Vegas to pursue a better job opportunities. In Las Vegas, she worked in various hotels and ultimately retired from the Sahara Hotel.
Through her hardwork and dedication, Virginia fulfilled one of her greatest dreams: bringing all her children to the United States. She was a devoted mother to her six children: Ruby, Elvira, Jerick, Gina, Gentry, and Jeanser; and a loving grandmother to Elaine, Ellyze, Jerel, Erika, Jemri, Jemyr, Gino Carlo, Gelyn, Genrold, Nika, Lisa, and Sergie; and a proud great-grandmother to Mimi, whom she was overjoyed to meet during a hospital visit.
In her later years, Virginia lived with her son, Jerick, who lovingly cared for her. For the last year and a half of her life, she resided with her daughter, Gina. Virginia passed away at home, in the arms of her daughter, following a hospital and rehabilitation visits. Virginia’s legacy of love, resilience, and compassion will live on in our hearts. May her spirit continue to guide us as we navigate our paths forward.
A visitation for Virginia will be held Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Palm Mortuary - Eastern, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A committal service will occur Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Palm Eastern Mortuary & Cemetery, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123.
