Wayne Evans Shafer, 76, passed peacefully at his home in Las Vegas, January 15, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 30, 1937, in San Angelo, Texas. He served a tour of duty with the U.S. Navy before returning to his home in Mertzon, Texas, and to later attend Sul Ross University while also helping with his father's ranch operations. In 1964, he moved to Las Vegas to manage Standard Surgical Supply, where he was a partner and president of the company. He also worked for the Review-Journal newspaper in Las Vegas.
