Born in Smyrna, Delaware, in 1932 to Lawrence and Helen Evans, Bill grew up with a strong work ethic, balancing numerous jobs while completing high school. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Delaware State College, a master’s in education from the University of Maryland, and later a specialist in education degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Bill dedicated his life to education, serving as principal for more than three decades. He led the C.V.T. Gilbert Sixth Grade Center for 13 years before going on to serve as principal at Tobler Elementary, Red Rock Elementary, and Derfelt Elementary. One of his proudest professional achievements was converting Mabel Hoggard Elementary into Nevada’s first magnet school, laying the groundwork for future generations of students.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Bill served during the Korean War. While stationed in Germany, he was introduced to officiating sports, a passion he carried throughout his life. For more than 50 years, he was an active member of the Southern Nevada Officials Association (SNOA), where he dedicated himself to mentoring young athletes and fostering integrity in youth sports. His commitment to guiding young people extended well beyond the classroom and playing field, shaping lives through his example of leadership, service, and honor.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Judy; his son, Kellen, and his wife, Elizabeth, and his granddaughter Naia. Along with his beloved niece, Joanna; and a large extended family who will continue to celebrate his legacy of kindness and dedication.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123.
