William “Fergie” Steel, a longtime Henderson resident, passed away on April 11, 2026, at the age of 79. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, on August 21, 1946, Fergie brought a bit of Scottish spirit to Las Vegas, where he lived for more than 65 years.
A proud 1965 graduate of Rancho High School, Fergie went on to serve with honor as a Navy SEAL during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he built a career defined by hard work, spending decades as a union plumber and pipefitter, including 12 years at the Nevada Test Site. Fergie’s greatest adventure began on Fremont Street, where he "rescued" the love of his life, Kathleen, after her car broke down. That led to 56 years of marriage and a lifetime of stories. A devoted father and "Grandpa," Fergie was a constant fixture at his children’s games and served his community as a soccer commissioner and Boy Scout leader. Whether he was smoking brisket, riding his bike, or cruising in his dream street rod, Fergie lived life at full throttle.
He found peace camping in the Utah wilderness and joy in a fast-paced game of table tennis or listening to the Beach Boys. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Steel; his children Heather (Joe) Ham, Stacy (Tim) Castello, and Steven Steel; and his grandchildren, Riley (Lara) Steel, Adrian Ham, and Luca Castello.
He joins his son, William “Fergie Jr.” Steel, in eternal rest. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
