Lee Ying was born on April 14, 1927 in Canton, China. At a young age, Lee started to train as a performer in the Chinese Opera Arts where she met her long yearned stage partner, Kai, who became her lifelong partner. Her passion for the Chinese Opera Arts persisted for her entire life. At the age of 25, she married Kai and gave birth to four daughters and two sons. The 1950s was an era of political turmoil in China; so in 1961, she took the opportunity of moving to Hong Kong singly so as to lay the ground for the rest of the family to join her later. During her many years in Hong Kong, she took on the task of nurturing and caring for her two nephews - a job so well done that she earned among her family and friends the respectful nick name “Tai Yee”, meaning “Great Aunt”. “Tai Yee” treated everyone with the utmost kindness and always placed the needs of others before herself. Eventually, after years of waiting, all of her family reunited one by one in Hong Kong.
In 1985, Lee and Kai brought their family to the United States. They resided in Reno, Nevada and then in 1998, moved a second time to Las Vegas, Nevada. Since moving to the States, Lee continued to demonstrate her loving care towards her children, and then her children’s children. She earned the hearts of all her grandchildren. All the while, she enjoyed staying in touch with her many relatives throughout China and North America. In December 2013, Lee was struck with a lung condition which caused serious complications.
She passed away peacefully at 0315h on the 15th of December at the age of 88, surrounded by her loving family. Lee Ying is survived by her son, David, and three daughters, Bing Yee, Bing Sum, and Bing Ling.
Arrangements under the direction of Palm Eastern Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
