Zane Y Burgeson, beloved husband, papa, brother, dad, uncle and loyal friend left this world peacefully on the morning of June 21, 2024. His soul departed in the shadow of the summer solstice, which brings the promise of light, love, and expansion--of which Zane brought in abundance to his life and those around him.
Zane was the first of two sons born on July 31, 1956, to John and Dorothy Burgeson. Y, his unusual middle name, is a nod to his birth state of Alaska and a compromise by his mom to his dad, who wanted to name him ‘Yukon.’ From Alaska, the family moved to Illinois, where he and his brother, Dean, spent time doing what brothers do-getting into mischief, playing rough and working hard. It is also where Zane fed his love for all things Chicago professional sports.
Zane made a move across country to Las Vegas in January 1989 for a job at the Clark County Assessor’s Office, where he built a 30-year career. It is also here where he met the love of his life and his best friend Carol. Zane and Carol married on December 4, 1993. Together they traveled the globe, played hours of golf and volleyball, hosted countless parties, watched thousands of sunsets, cheered on the Vegas Golden Knights, and simply enjoyed every minute of being together (regardless of what crazy thing Carol asked him to do).
Zane was made of all the good stuff. He was kind and thoughtful. He was funny and steady. He was patient and humble. He really was the best of us, and his absence will be felt deeply by many.
He is survived by his wife Carol, grandson Kainoa, daughter Danielle, brother Dean, sister-in-law Linda, niece Kelli Wylde (Dustin), nephew Zach and great nephews, Finn and Sawyer; and too many friends too count.
A celebration of life will be held on August 3, 2024, at the family home. Further details to follow.
The family ask that donations to Nathan Adelson Hospice be made in lieu of flowers.
