I love and miss u, uncle Jayeson!! Think of u often!! 

I remember the first time I saw you with your huge black combat boots, red bandana, and big smile, I knew we were going to be friends forever. You loved me so much treated me like your own. Thanks for always being there for me no matter what. I will always miss you so much and I hope you know how much you meant to me too. Your memory will live on. Much Love to you my friend

James Ivey would always lighten the longest and dreariest shows with his wonderful sense of humor.  We would often go off to meals or films together between matinees and evening shows and it allowed me to get to know the sweet man with a delightfully arch outlook on life.  He will be missed by many, many people.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

     We will really miss your energy and sharp sense of humor!  Who else would leave a message with no name, only your last 4, and know that I'd know exactly who was calling?  Rest easy now...

I knew James as Jayeson.  He entered my life in 1983 in San Francisco.  We became friends instantly and remained close even though we were miles apart.  He was such a special person to me, my husband, Michael & our son, Taj. We all have wonderful memories of him.  Taj remembers Jayeson taking him, Sasha, Clay & his beloved dog, Winnie to Ocean Beach when they were very young.  The kids jumped into the ocean with their clothes on & were soaking wet.  Jayeson took them to a laundromat, stripped them down and dried their clothes. He dressed them in his work clothes he had in his truck while they waited for their clothes to dry.  I remember many Halloween's with him.  He always had the best costume as he was the ultimate artist and knew what to do with a piece of fabric.  He helped us move to our home here in San Francisco and was always there when we needed him.  Or adopted pit bull, Fifi, even loved him as he would pick her up in his arms and hold her like a baby while giving her kisses on her belly.  Jayeson was so beloved in our hearts and we will love & miss him forever.

Jimmy, how do I say goodbye when I still have so much to talk with you about. We have so many great memories  of you.  I will always remember all the times we spent together as a family when Cassi and David were growing up , as they became adults, and have family's of there own. Your love and support was there for all of us. I will carry you with me always in my heart.I will say so long for now May God be with you on your journey home until we meet again.

James Ivey was a beloved and special friend of the large extended family of the Washington National Opera Supernumerary Guild. He worked hard to make us look good with safety pins and a pat on the back. The sense of loss is tempered only by our many years of friendship and fond memories. You are already missed by so many, the Opera members were stunned and saddened.
As important person from our union, your brothers and sisters will always  miss you and the many kindnesses shown to us over the years. And as the word spreads throughout the theater community...there will be many more who will miss you and remember the dresser James from D.C. There are heavy hearts all around.  May God bless and keep thee. And the angels lead thee to thy rest.

Uncle Jimmy,Ashley and I miss you and love you always.I will cherish the memories of you spending time at my house with me and my daughter and friends and all the cookouts and fun we had. Thank you for all the encouragement you gave me and the advice for being a single parent trying to raise a teenage daughter.What am I going to do now to get advice from a father figure.
