

On August 10, 2010, Leon Navarro Spears, Jr. passed away at his home in Laurel, MD at the age of 62. He was a resident of Laurel for 28 years. He was born on September 28, 1947 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was born to Estelle Adams and Leon Spears, Sr. He worked for Prince George’s Community College and Howard University School of Business where he taught property and casualty insurance for Maryland and DC students. Previous to that, he worked for Bankers Financial Group, Inc. where he was responsible for home and commercial mortgage loan originations. While in New York, he worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He was a member of Metropolitan Life’s leading sales division for five years. He also worked for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Risk Management Department. He was an active member of the Columbia Community Church of Seventh-day Adventists as an ordained elder. The joy of his life was cooking of all kinds. He leaves behind his wife, Myschelle and two adult children, Leon III, Seth, four siblings: Barry Spears, Saundra Spears, ValerieSpears, and Andrea Peters.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2010, 12pm at the Emmanuel Seventh-day Adventist Church, 18800 New Hampshire Avenue, Ashton, MD. There will be a viewing held from 11am – 12pm. Interment will be in Maryland National Memorial Park, Laurel, MD. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Fleck Funeral Home, Laurel, MD.
