Edna (Beard) Shaw Roberts

Edna E. (Beard) Shaw Roberts of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away peacefully after a long illness on Thursday, December 4, 2014 with her daughters at her side. Edna was 99 years old, just 21 days short of her celebrating her 100th birthday.

She was born in Franklin County, AL. Edna was a Lawrence County school teacher for 33 years and a member of the Lawrence County Retired Teachers Association.

Edna was a long time member of Coleman United Methodist Church. She loved her church, its members, and especially singing in the choir. She also was active in the United Methodist Women where she enjoyed fellowship with her sisters in Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rush and Georgia Beard; her husbands Lawrence V. Shaw and John Solon Roberts; three sisters Maye Moore, Myrtle Taylor and Florence Warhurst; five brothers Howart, Neal, Millard, Alison, and Alford Beard.

She is survived by two daughters Brenda (Shaw) Machen and husband Mick of Corpus Christi, TX and Connie (Shaw) Hixson and husband Larry of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren: Perry (Wendy) Shaffer, Amanda (Shaffer) Elledge and husband Andrew, Brian (Kendna) Shaffer, Joshua (Tiffany) Machen, Tricia (Machen) Krajca, Trevor (Jennifer) Machen, Jamee (Dillard) Sharpe, and husband Corey, and Mark (Kari) Dillard, Amber (Hixson) Railey; 23 great-grand children and many loved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Saturday December 6, 2014 from 4pm to 8pm at Pettus-Turnbo Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be on Sunday, December 7, at 2pm at Coleman United Methodist Church with Rev. Ricky Wade officiating and interment in Dunn Cemetery. Edna will lay in state from 1pm to 2pm at the church.

In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Coleman United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
